NASA chief Nelson: International Space Station will be deorbited in 2030-2031
The International Space Station (ISS) will be deorbited in 2030-2031. This forecast was made at the budget hearings in Congress by the head of NASA, Bill Nelson.
He noted that the ISS is “aging” and is going to be deorbited “in 2030-2031.” Nelson outlined the dates, speaking in the Committee on Science and Technology of the House of Representatives of the US Congress. He recalled that then it is planned to carry out work in near-Earth orbit at private commercial stations.
Earlier, the EU and Japan, like the United States, announced plans to continue activities on the ISS until 2030.
Our country has not yet finally decided on the date. Director General of Roscosmos Yuri Borisov said that Russia would most likely participate in the ISS project until 2028.
