NASA head Bill Nelson announced the postponement of manned flights to the Moon. The Artemis 2 orbital mission is now scheduled for September 2025, and the crew landing of the Artemis 3 mission is expected in September 2026. The decision was made to ensure safety and provide additional time to resolve problems with the development, creation and integration of the Artemis 2 and Artemis 3 missions.
In addition, it was announced that the Artemis 4 mission to build a lunar station is planned for September 2028. The delay in manned flights comes after the mission to send the private Peregrine lander to the lunar surface failed.
The module, launched on the latest Vulcan launch vehicle, was supposed to land at the end of February, but eight hours after launch problems with its propulsion system became known. Later, information appeared from the Astrobotic company, which developed the lander under a contract with NASA, that the probe continued to fly, but there was no longer any chance of a soft landing on the Moon.
