NASA plans to build a tug to deorbit the ISS in 2030

NASA is going to build space tug, which would allow the International Space Station (ISS) to be safely launched into the ocean after the end of its operational life in 2030. The cost of the tug could be about $1 billion, but the agency hopes that the price will come down after receiving offers from industry companies.
The original plan to decommission the ISS involved the use of the Russian Progress unmanned spacecraft, but after recent fluid leaks from Progress and Soyuz, NASA wants to have a fallback. According to him, in 2030, the extended life of the ISS will end and it will be sent for controlled destruction into the atmosphere, after which the debris of the station will fall into the South Pacific Ocean.
In the 2024 budget, NASA asked the US government to provide them with $27.2 billion, including $180 million for the preliminary development of a space tug.
