Narcologist, doctor of medical sciences, director of the International Scientific and Practical Center for Narcology of the Moscow Department of Health, Anton Masyakin, in an interview with Lenta.ru, refuted popular myths about the “benefit” of alcohol.
He noted that these myths often justify alcoholism, but in general only worsen the negative consequences.
He called the possibility of raising the pressure with a glass of brandy the first myth, adding that this drink, in principle, is devoid of special properties. He also stated that alcohol will never replace full-fledged medicines.
Masyakin also denied the benefits of alcohol “for relaxation.” According to him, such sentiments indicate the initial stage of the formation of alcohol addiction.
Also fiction is the beneficial effect of alcohol on creative thinking. “Alcohol consumption reduces working memory capacity and promotes thoughts that are not related to a task or activity. Alcohol does not increase creativity, but it helps to reduce critical thoughts about emerging ideas, ”the doctor said.
He noted that over time, a person’s desire to drink grows, and the doses grow.
“Consumption of alcohol not only does not increase a person’s creative abilities, but can also form irreversible medical consequences for the brain,” Masyakin said.
According to him, the assumption about the warming properties of alcohol is also a myth.
