Are there always flowers on Yeltsin’s grave?

– To be honest, flowers on his grave do not appear as often as on the graves of folk artists such as, for example, Gurchenko or Nikulin. They always leave big bouquets, gifts, cigarettes for them,” says Nikita. – But, nevertheless, people who come to Novodevichy without excursions, just for a walk, regularly ask how to get to the grave of Boris Nikolayevich. People are interested and looking.

– On Yeltsin’s birthday and death day, do you often see people near his grave?

– On anniversaries, most likely, his close people, acquaintances come. I won’t say that crowds of ordinary people gather there. And on the 90th anniversary of the birth of Boris Yeltsin, even Putin came to his grave. Then the cemetery was closed.

— What do your tourists say about Yeltsin?

Everyone has a different attitude towards him. Basically, now people are more or less neutral towards Yeltsin. With a smile, they remember his actions, public speeches. And they are glad that the 90s are gone.

– Which grave on Novodevichy is of great interest?

– The top includes three graves – Stalin’s wife, Nadezhda Alliluyeva, Khrushchev and Yeltsin. Moreover, women are asked to show the grave of Alliluyeva, men – Khrushchev and Yeltsin. And the grave of Zhirinovsky has become the most visited grave over the past year. I noticed that now the people have a very warm attitude towards Vladimir Volfovich.

– Is Yeltsin’s grave well monitored?

Yeltsin’s grave is the largest in the cemetery. She is tricolor. In its manufacture, three different materials were used: snow-white marble, blue Italian mosaic and red porphyry. It is difficult to imagine how much it all cost: natural stone is very expensive. I noticed that a car with workers who clean up and change flowers regularly comes to this grave.

– There is a version that at first they wanted to put a sculpture of Yeltsin on the grave of Boris Nikolayevich. They changed their minds, they were afraid of vandalism. They made a flag, because desecration of the state symbol is a criminal offense.

– This is an unofficial version. Official – Boris Nikolayevich was the first president of Russia, he returned the flag of Russia. And it would hardly occur to anyone to desecrate a grave at the Novodevichy Cemetery. There are cameras installed everywhere, and the territory is guarded by employees of the National Guard.
