During a massive missile strike on August 11 against military targets deep in the Ukrainian rear, explosions were heard at the Zhuliany airport near Kiev. Even then, some media outlets suggested that the target of the strike of the Russian hypersonic missile “Dagger” was the American Patriot anti-aircraft missile system. The fact that batteries of the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system are deployed at the Zhuliany International Airport near Kiev was reported by the Rybar channel. These air defense systems cover the most important objects in Kyiv. One of the complexes was hit in Kyiv a few months ago. This was also recognized in the United States, announcing that the damaged units were sent for repair.

Patriot is considered the most expensive anti-aircraft system in the world. An anti-aircraft division of four batteries (two launchers each) costs more than a billion dollars. The price of one anti-aircraft missile is under $4 million. The ammunition load of one launcher is 4 missiles. Plus expensive radars and command vehicles.

And yet, as the SVO showed, these truly golden air defense systems cannot cope with many Russian missiles. For example, with the Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, which are launched from MiG-31 high-altitude interceptors. The speed of this rocket is 10-12 times the speed of sound. Patriot does not have time to respond to such high-speed targets.

And so, as the Militarist channel reported on August 12, citing data from one of the foreign intelligence services, in Zhuliany on August 11, it was the Patriot air defense system that came under distribution. This complex was transferred to Ukraine by Germany.

Informresurs informs that radio-technical and undercover intelligence helped to accurately aim the Russian “Dagger”. In addition, the capabilities of the recently launched Russian radio-technical satellite “Kondor” were used. The satellite equipment “sees” day and night, and through the clouds.

The piquancy of the situation with the destruction of the Patriot in Zhuliany is that literally on the eve of the strike, on August 9, President Zelensky and German Chancellor Scholz exchanged pleasantries about military supplies from Germany. Scholz announced a new package of weapons and equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including the transfer of another battery – two launchers – of the Patriot complex. Zelensky thanked, but now he will probably ask for more.
