The negative consequences of regular consumption of champagne are a threat to dental health and a headache, said Valentin Skryabin, head of the clinical branch of the Moscow Scientific and Practical Center for Narcology of the Moscow Health Department.
In a commentary to RIA Novosti, he noted that intoxication from champagne comes much faster than from ordinary wine. According to him, this is due to the carbon dioxide contained in the bubbles of champagne. But this same gas can also damage tooth enamel.
“Regular drinking of champagne can put your dental health at risk,” the doctor said.
He also explained why drinking champagne can lead to headaches or even migraines. According to him, in such situations, the metabolism of other nutrients that are usually used for energy is inhibited.
Scriabin also recalled that ethanol is the main threat in champagne, so neither dilution with water nor release of bubbles will help to avoid negative effects.
“The safe dose of alcohol is zero,” he said.
