The Figaro publication previously reported that Gazprom had notified the French Engie of a reduction in gas supplies from August 30. According to the expert of the Oil and Gas Information Agency Alexander Khurshudov, this decision will bring benefits to Russia, since the country will get access to the stock exchange.
In conversation with “Evening Moscow” Khurshudov said that in the current situation, France is not experiencing any particular difficulties. The expert explained this by the fact that the French have LNG reception points, as well as gas pipelines from Algeria and Nigeria. As the specialist noted, gas is not a problem for France, because the real problem for them is to find cheap gas, since prices on the exchange have more than doubled.
Khurshudov believes Russia stands to gain from cuts rather than lose. According to the expert, along with a slight reduction in supplies, there will be an increase in its value, and nothing will prevent Gazprom from entering the stock exchange and selling gas at $3,500 at that very moment.
The expert added that all countries have long-term gas contracts, which are supposedly half fulfilled. Europe, according to Khurshudov, wants to buy on the stock exchange, and its countries were happy when prices were $150-200 per thousand cubic meters, since they filled all their free tanks with this gas.
Nevertheless, the specialist specified that the market has changed and become spontaneous. When prices went up, according to the expert, a “great business” appeared for Russia: to take much cheaper long-term gas and drive it to the stock exchange, where it is three times more expensive. The expert concluded that one cannot say that someone will freeze without gas, but this will hit the European countries hard.
