Biologist Batke: growing fern and ficus in the room helps improve memory and attention
Indoor plants can not only decorate the room, but also have a positive effect on human health, declared in an interview with The Conversation, Sven Batke, a biologist at the British Edge Hill University.
According to him, indoor plants can significantly reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide in the room. Particularly effective in this sense are the blue star fern, spider plants and anthurium species (for example, the flamingo flower) and weeping figs. In just an hour, these plants reduce their carbon dioxide concentration from 2,000 ppm to around 480 ppm.
At the same time, as Batke noted, even an ordinary ficus can have a much greater impact on a person than one can imagine. It improves concentration by 20% and improves memory by about the same amount (15–20%). Ficus also reduces the production of the stress hormone cortisol, which has a positive effect on people suffering from anxiety.
