One of the dangerous consequences of failures in digital ecosystems can be the failure of Smart Home devices – this is evidenced by recent interruptions in the operation of such gadgets from one of the large Chinese manufacturers. On October 5, it was reported, in particular, about non-working “smart” vacuum cleaners, switches, light bulbs, kettles and doorbells.
In conditions where such a failure can be repeated at any manufacturer, a particular risk concerns heating devices (both electric and gas) in private homes, noted the company servicing cottage villages in the Moscow region.
“During critical failures, electric heating systems can become a fire hazard,” emphasized master electrician Alexey Gurov. – But it’s even more likely that remote activation and adjustment will stop working. This threatens to “defrost” the house if we are talking about a system with a boiler and liquid radiators.”
The specialist advises that if the heating system with a liquid coolant is connected to a “smart home”, use antifreeze rather than water as a coolant.
In addition, the main switch (“switch”) of a private house should also not be made using a Smart Home gadget. In addition, a much more reliable way to organize remote home control is to implement your own home server, without using proprietary cloud services. However, this requires Internet of Things programmer skills, the company noted.
