Myasnikov explained why doctors are against daylight saving time

Physicians around the world strongly oppose the transition from winter to summer time and vice versa. TV presenter and doctor Alexander Myasnikov explained this is because living organisms are closely connected with “solar” time.
He noted that the physiological processes of the body are subject to “circadian”, daily rhythms – the production of hormones, digestion, body temperature and the activity of the nervous system.
Myasnikov recalled that the first change to daylight saving time was made in 1918 in Germany to save electricity. Then the experience was extended to several US states.
Now experts doubt the serious economic effect of this measure. In the morning there is an hour more light, but in the evening it is an hour less.
“It’s like pulling a short blanket over your head: your legs will definitely be exposed,” Myasnikov said.
He recalled data from the United States, according to which in the first two weeks of the transition to daylight saving time, the number of car accidents increases by 6%. In the first week of transition in Sweden, the number of heart attacks and strokes increases, and in Finland – atrial fibrillation.
Myasnikov cited the results of research by scientists who, after analyzing four million cases of cancer, came to the conclusion that daylight saving time “may be a human carcinogen.”
