Musk fired 15% of Twitter moderators

Twitter, bought by Elon Musk, cut 15% of moderators, the head of one of the departments, Yuel Roth, wrote on the social network.
Across the company as a whole, reductions of up to 50% of the staff are expected. The personnel changes could affect approximately 20% of Twitter’s content, which will not be able to be properly reviewed.
Musk confirmed the cuts and explained that the company has no choice as it is losing more than $4 million a day under the current model.
“All those fired were offered three months of severance pay, which is 50% more than required by law,” added the new owner of the social network.
Earlier, Musk promised to reduce the level of censorship by returning Trump supporters to the social network. Thus, the purge in the ranks of the moderators began literally from the first days after the arrival of Elon Musk.
At the same time, Congressional elections will start in the United States on November 8, and the “cleansing” of moderators can play an important role.
Earlier, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, approached Musk. According to Turk, Musk and his company should be aware of the potential harm that can be done using the platform’s capabilities. He called for “establishing barriers to the use and development of the platform” in the interests of respect for general human rights. He also approached Musk with a wish that human rights be at the center of Twitter’s work under his leadership.
