American businessman Elon Musk said that he is on the side of Kyiv in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, but “ruthless escalation”, in his opinion, is risky for Ukraine and the world. “I am pro-Ukrainian, but a relentless escalation is very risky for Ukraine and the world,” Musk tweeted.

As the newspaper wrote, citing officials in the United States, the administration of President Joe Biden is beginning to recognize that Kyiv may need help to strike in Crimea, “even if such a move increases the risk of escalation.” At the same time, as noted in the article, military and administrative officials doubted the expediency of Ukraine’s concentration of attacks on the peninsula.

“Now the Biden administration is contemplating one of its most daring moves — helping Ukraine attack the peninsula,” writes the NYT.

Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh also said this week that the US will support Ukraine, including a possible operation to seize Crimea, because Washington considers the peninsula to be Ukrainian territory.

Last fall, Musk posted several posts on Twitter, where he outlined his proposal for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, Crimea should forever remain part of Russia, and in the new territories – the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions – new referendums should be held under the auspices of the UN, the results of which will determine their future fate. Musk stressed that Russia is significantly superior to Ukraine in terms of military potential, so the outcome of the conflict is obvious, he urged to think about peace in order to reduce the number of victims.

In August, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine would return Crimea in any way it saw fit. According to him, the state will not consult on this issue with other countries. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Western countries “will never recognize” the annexation of Ukraine’s territories to Russia and will continue to put sanctions pressure on Moscow. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov then said that the return of Crimea to Ukraine “by non-military means” was out of the question.
