Moose in forest parks and even on the streets of Moscow is already a familiar phenomenon, especially for residents of the northeast and east of the capital. Beautiful, powerful and usually calm animals attract the attention of many and often become objects for photo and video filming. It is not uncommon for people to approach animals to pet them, feed them, or take selfies. Why this should not be done, especially in the next month, experts from the Losiny Ostrov National Park told.

The fact is that the mating season has begun for moose, the so-called rut. During this period, animals can show aggression.

“The moose race will last until October. At this time, the male is in search of a companion. The behavior of the animal becomes unpredictable. An elk perceives any moving object as a potential rival. Usually calm animals become aggressive, less cautious, and the likelihood of their sudden appearance on the roads increases. website national park.

Muscovites were advised to be more careful in forest parks, and if they saw an elk, in no case should they come closer than 50 meters to it. Drivers are advised to stop, turn off their headlights and wait for the animal to leave when encountering a moose on the road.

“If the moose lowered his head and flattened his ears, he warns that he may attack,” experts explain.

Once in the field of vision of an elk, screaming, waving your arms, running is not necessary. The animal is unlikely to attack if you behave calmly and, slowly backing away, move away. The elk itself does not know how to back away, and if it senses danger, then, not being able to retreat, it can rush at you. In this case, experts advise you to quickly jump to the side and hide behind a tree. Having run past, the elk does not return, but continues to move forward. But, of course, it is better not to bring it to this.
