Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko said that the initiative to ban state purchases of foreign artificial lung ventilation (ALV) devices is under discussion. Earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Trade made such a proposal and prepared a corresponding draft resolution, Kommersant drew attention to it.
“There is production in Russia. Now the initiative is being discussed,” said Mr. Murashko (quoted from TASS).
In an explanatory note to the prepared by the Ministry of Industry and Trade draft resolution it was noted that in Russia the main manufacturers of mechanical ventilation are JSC KRET of the state corporation Rostec and LLC Triton-electronics. Together they can produce up to 36,000 ventilators per year. The ministry estimated the average need of state and municipal institutions at 2.7 thousand units.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade pointed out that a ban on foreign ventilators is needed to support Russian enterprises. The department believes that local manufacturers are able to cover the needs of the healthcare system in full. However, Konstantin Zotov, CEO of Medical Systems and Technologies, told Kommersant that in some cases, for example, when it comes to treating premature babies and adult patients with complications, “the capabilities of Russian devices will definitely not be enough.”
