Damir Mukhetdinov, First Deputy Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Russia, proposed to allocate the Olimpiysky sports complex, which is currently under reconstruction, for prayers during the religious holidays Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Adha. He told the publication “Moslenta”. Completion of the reconstruction of the Olimpiyskiy is scheduled for 2024.
Usually, for prayers on major holidays, Muslims in Moscow are allocated spaces like stadiums and squares, as well as overlap streets, the mufti reminded. However, Damir Mukhetdinov does not consider this a solution to the issue.
“I think it’s easier to solve everything. During the holidays of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, so that hundreds of thousands of people do not block the streets, provide them with the Olympic Complex, so that they pray on its territory, behind the mosque. It is logical, beautiful, 100 thousand people will gather. We prayed for one or two hours, parted, and no one bothers anyone,” suggested Damir Mukhetdinov.
The Olimpiysky sports complex was located in the Meshchansky district of Moscow, on Olimpiysky Prospekt, near the Prospekt Mira metro station. For 2022, the stadium has been completely demolished, a large-scale reconstruction is underway. The construction of a new multifunctional complex is planned to be completed in 2023-2024.
Muslims of Moscow for religious holidays also gather at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, located next to the “Olympic”.
