The restriction on movement in the Kerch Strait applies to both surface and underwater vessels, as well as aircraft. This was announced on Wednesday, August 2, in the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The department clarified that in the area limited by the coastline, it is prohibited to sail all ships and watercraft, vehicles under water, anchoring, splashing down and flying aircraft, people in the water and other activities.
The only exceptions are vessels that follow the fairways and recommended routes through the Kerch Strait in transit or to ports located in the Kerch Strait during daylight hours.
On July 28, the operational headquarters of the Krasnodar Territory announced the decision of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation prohibit the passage of all small boats in the Kerch Strait. The ban applies in the areas between Capes Khroni and Achilleion, as well as to the north of the line between Capes Takil and Panagia and the coastline. Transit traffic on the Kerch-Yenikalsky Canal of civilian ships is allowed during daylight hours according to the established schedule and after an inspection.
Subsequently, the head of the Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, clarified that the restrictive measures in the Kerch Strait will not affect the work of Crimean fishermen. The decision on the relevant requests is made in the “manual” mode.
