The service clarified that restrictions on the export and re-export of cars imported to Georgia from the United States were introduced from August 1.

In addition, from September 26, the Georgian authorities will introduce similar restrictions on the supply of cars from Europe, as provided for by the 11th package of EU sanctions against Russia.

According to the Republic’s National Statistical Service, over the first six months, Georgia exported more than 3,700 cars to Russia.

European Union introduced 11-package of sanctions against Russia on 29 June. Among other things, the EU banned the export to the Russian market of new and used cars with an engine capacity of more than 1.9 liters, as well as electric vehicles and hybrids. The right of the union to ban exports to countries from which goods subject to sanctions are then delivered to Russia was also expanded. The United States banned the import of cars into Russia in the spring of 2022.

Formerly three Georgian banks suspended money transfers by the Russian Unistream payment system after the US Treasury added it to its sanctions list.
