Most of the German citizens surveyed did not support the supply of tanks to Kyiv

In Germany, 45% of participants in a survey on arms supplies to Ukraine did not support the transfer of German Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv, 33% of respondents approve of such an initiative. The results of a survey by the analytical company YouGov were led by the DPA agency, writes “RIA News”.
According to the results of the study, 22% of respondents refrained from answering about the supply of tanks to Ukraine. The voters of the Greens coalition party (50% for, 25% against) expressed the greatest support on this issue, as noted. Among the supporters of the SPD, 41% of the respondents supported the initiative, almost the same number of Germans opposed the transfer of tanks. The least support is observed among the voters of the AfD (76 vs. 13%) and the Left party (52 vs. 32%). Participants in the survey, which was conducted from 16 to 21 December, were 2075 citizens of Germany.
In September, the Bild newspaper reported that most members of the German government support the transfer of additional weapons to Ukraine, including Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 tanks, Marder infantry fighting vehicles and Fuchs armored personnel carriers. At the same time, German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht statedthat Berlin will not supply Western-style battle tanks to Kyiv until none of the partners of the FRG makes such a decision.
According to the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, in the first three quarters of 2022, the German authorities issued permits for the supply of military products to Ukraine in the amount of 775 million euros. Among the weapons delivered to Kyiv are Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers, Mars multiple launch rocket systems, Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, and the IRIS-T air defense system.
In the summer, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz rejected criticism for the slow delivery of weapons to Kyiv, and in mid-July, the Ukrainian side spoke about signs of wear on Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers received from Germany a month ago, Der Spiegel wrote.
