President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach said that the majority of heads of sports federations support the proposal to allow Russians to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
“Most international federations apply our recommendations to achieve this goal, to fulfill our mission,” Mr. Bach told the publication Inside the Games. According to him, Russian athletes are already participating in large numbers both in various qualifying competitions and in the World and European Championships.
At the end of March, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Russians and Belarusians be allowed to participate in international competitions only in a neutral status and only those who have not publicly advocated military action in Ukraine.
Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin said that if Russians are admitted to the Olympic Games, 108 Russian athletes will compete. However, the final decision on the admission of Russian athletes to the Olympics has not yet been made. At the same time, the President of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics Irina Viner-Usmanova statedthat Russian gymnasts will definitely not compete at the Olympics in Paris in a neutral status.
