Mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus found in Finland
In the area of the Finnish city of Pori, a species of mosquito Culex Modetus, known as the distributor of the West Nile fever virus, was found. This was announced by the University of Helsinki.
According to experts, the occurrence of this disease in Finland is extremely unlikely. It is noted that Finland has become the northernmost point of observation of the species Culex Modetus in Europe. The nearest observation points for this species are the Leningrad Region in Russia and the Skåne region in Sweden.
According to Lorna Calverwell, a researcher at the Department of Virology at the University of Helsinki, who made this discovery, so far only one representative of this species has been found in Finland, but it is unlikely that there will be no other representatives of this species in the country.
