Moskalkova urged to punish those responsible for the attack on Milashina and Nemov in Chechnya

The perpetrators of the attack on journalist Yelena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov, who came to Chechnya to hear the verdict of Zarema Musayeva, the wife of the former judge of the Supreme Court of the republic, must be punished. About it stated Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Tatyana Moskalkova in her Telegram channel.

“Any illegal actions that threaten the life and health of Russian citizens must be stopped, and the perpetrators found and punished,” she wrote.

Moskalkova said that she had sent telegrams to the Minister of Internal Affairs Ruslan Alkhanov and the head of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee for the Chechen Republic Vitaly Volkov with a request to conduct an investigation into the attack on Milashina and Nemov “with a view to initiating a criminal case and identifying the perpetrators”, as well as to the prosecutor of the republic Arsan Adaev – with asking to take control of the situation.

Milashina and Nemov arrived in Grozny on the morning of 4 July. According to Ksenia Sobchak and the human rights organization “Team Against Torture” (the former “Committee against Torture”, recognized as a foreign agent and self-liquidated), when they got into a taxi at the airport, three cars blocked their way. As a result, unknown persons beat both of them, broke all the equipment that they had, and then took it away. Moskalkova later reported that Milashina had broken fingers.

The victims were taken to the emergency room after the attack. Later they were transferred to a hospital in Beslan. On the way to ensure their safety, they were accompanied by the commissioner for human rights in the republic, Mansur Soltaev. In turn, he named what happened as a “provocation against the republic”.

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that Vladimir Putin was informed about the attack on a journalist and a lawyer. Peskov noted that “we are talking about a very serious attack that requires quite energetic measures.” Later Chairman of the IC Alexander Bastrykin instructed Volkov to conduct a check on the fact of what happened and provide a report based on its results.
