Human Rights Ombudsman in Russia Tatyana Moskalkova said she hopes to continue the exchange of prisoners of war with Ukraine. She added that Russia continues to negotiate the exchange of sailors stuck in Ukrainian Izmail. According to her, 65 sailors remain there.
“Negotiations are being conducted not only daily, every second with the Ukrainian side, the competent authorities, we ask at least initially to exchange seriously ill patients. There are five of them. Including, the core, two people, unfortunately, with mental illness,” Tatyana Moskalkova told reporters at the Eastern Economic Forum (quoted by RIA Novosti). She added that now 65 Russian sailors remain in Izmail.
Tatyana Moskalkova added that she hopes that the practice of prisoner-of-war exchanges with Ukraine will continue. Mrs. Moskalkova did not answer the question of what formula a new prisoner exchange could take place. “Exchange issues are within the competence of the Ministry of Defense. And we are trying to act within the framework of the coordination that is built today, ”she said (quoted from Interfax).
Earlier, Tatyana Moskalkova reported that since the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, 72 Russian sailors have been held in Izmail. In May, Mrs. Moskalkova spokethat 11 of them returned to Russia.
