Against the background of sanctions and Russophobia, the number of complaints received by the office of the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia from compatriots abroad has significantly increased. This was announced on Wednesday by Russian Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova.
In her telegram channel, Moskalkova noted that in the current situation, protecting the rights of compatriots is of paramount importance. According to her, a great contribution to this work belongs to the Fund for Support and Protection of Compatriots Living Abroad.
Moskalkova said that “at a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov, she spoke about the number and topics of applications received” by the authorized body on this topic.
She noted that this year they received 1,167, “whereas for the same period in 2021 there were 731.”
Appeals from the Russians, as Moskalkova said, included assistance in returning to Russia. Many complaints were received in connection with the “illegal detention of civilians on the territory of Ukraine, including workers and entrepreneurs.”
In addition, the Ombudsman was asked for assistance in obtaining advice from a lawyer, legal assistance, obtaining the necessary documents, and also asked to create normal conditions for serving a criminal sentence. The appeals also contained requests for assistance in solving social issues, including medical support.
