Moskalkova appealed to the UN and the Red Cross in connection with the shelling of a hospital in the LPR

Russian Human Rights Ombudsman Tatiana Moskalkova called on the United Nations (UN) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to demand that Kyiv prevent human rights violations and comply with the Geneva Convention. Such a statement she did on his Telegram channel in connection with the shelling of a hospital in Novoaydar in the LPR on January 28, which was previously reported by the Ministry of Defense.

On Saturday, the Russian Defense Ministry accused The Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) in the shelling of the HIMARS multiple launch rocket system at the building of the district hospital in Novoaidar, Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR). As a result of the strike, 14 people died, 24 people – patients and hospital staff – received injuries of varying severity.

Moskalkova called the shelling on January 28 another grave war crime committed by “Ukrainian Nazis.”

“Cold-bloodedly and cynically, in violation of international law and the principles of humanity, the Armed Forces of Ukraine fired on a hospital in Novoaidar (LPR). The medical institution had a children’s department, there were civilian sick and wounded military personnel,” she wrote.

According to her, the Armed Forces of Ukraine violated Art. 18 of the 1949 Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War. The Ombudsman recalled that according to this article, “civilian hospitals organized to provide care to the wounded, sick, disabled and women in childbirth cannot under any circumstances be the object of attack.”

“I appeal to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with a demand not to allow violations of human rights, to call on the Ukrainian authorities to comply with the Geneva Convention. I am sure that the new Nuremberg will give a harsh assessment of this crime against humanity!” – stated in the message Moskalkova.

The Ministry of Defense previously reported that in the hospital that was hit, civilian and military doctors provided medical assistance to the local population and military personnel for “many months.” They also promised to find those involved in the shelling and bring them to justice.

At the Russian Foreign Ministry today commented incident, stating that the targeted shelling of civilian medical facilities is a grave war crime of the Ukrainian authorities. The ministry emphasized that double standards are traced in the actions of Western countries, since they “do not notice” these crimes, raise the topic of a tribunal against Russia, but do not talk about the trial of the Ukrainian leadership “for their everyday crimes that are obvious in fact.” All facts are “carefully recorded” and they will not go unpunished, the Foreign Ministry added.
