Moscow schoolgirls – winners of the Russian open water competition

78 regions of Russia, four foreign states, more than 90 projects – these are the “numerical” results of the finals of the Russian Open Youth Water Competition, the results of which were summed up in Moscow.

A competition was held at the initiative of the Federal Agency for Water Resources. The winners were determined in sixteen categories, in particular: “Water industry 4.0 (digitalization)”, “Water without plastic”, “Protection and restoration of water resources in the Volga river basin named after. prof. V. V. Naidenko”, “Water and Climate”, “Water and Atom”, “Arctic Ribbon”, “Water and Peace”, “Sea and Oceans”, “Best Innovative Project”, “Conservation of Biodiversity of Water Bodies”.

This year, more than one and a half thousand applications-projects were submitted to the water competition, dedicated to the protection of water resources, the purification of rivers and reservoirs, the problem of the disappearance and shallowing of small rivers, the study of the quality of drinking water, the development of a sorbent for the treatment of domestic wastewater, and the optimization of the cooling system of a nuclear reactor , methods of cleaning the aquatic environment from garbage and plastic, rational use, protection and protection of water resources … Research affects such large objects as the Teletskoye and Saki lakes, the Gulf of Finland, Lake Sevan, the Black Sea.

Nearly ninety projects became finalists of the competition, among which is the project of the tenth-graders of the Moscow school No. 2065 Daria Slavnova and Vazira Ismailova with a rather tricky name “Purification of aqueous media with magnetite nanocomposites with titanium dioxide and titanosilicates”. The girls tried, using the most advanced methods of cleaning water environments with the help of reactive oxygen species, to develop a technology for cleaning the catastrophically polluted river Likova, located near the place of residence of schoolgirls. According to schoolgirls, environmental organizations involved in cleaning water bodies will be able to use the technology developed by them.

As Natalya Davydova, head of the water competition, noted, all participants in the competition are engaged in research projects based on serious scientific methods.

“They strive to make sure that the results of their work help improve the condition of water, help solve problems with garbage disposal, do everything to improve the health of the population,” said Natalya Davydova. – In this sense, we adhere to the principle: “Think globally, act locally.”

According to Tatyana Bokova, Deputy Head of the Federal Water Resources Agency, every year the water agenda becomes more and more relevant.

“Water wealth surrounds us, but sometimes we do not notice the importance that each drop is already acquiring now,” said Tatyana Bokova. – Your projects are about how important it is to protect, protect, rationally use and comprehensively manage water resources, including transboundary ones.

17 projects from Russia, as well as two projects from the Republic of Belarus, one project each from Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan became the superfinalists of the competition.

– Protecting our rivers, lakes, keeping water clean is a matter of national security. Water ecosystems are very fragile and vulnerable, and our key task is to do everything to prevent a shortage of clean fresh water, said Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology Alexander Kozlov. – Society, especially young people, today strive not only to acquire and follow environmental habits, but to directly participate in all areas of the conservation of Russia’s natural heritage. I am proud of how well-developed, scientifically based projects the guys offer for the water competition. This means that we have chosen the right course for greening the country.
