Moscow schoolchildren will represent Russia at the International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad

The 57th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad (IMChO) started yesterday in Kazakhstan, in which teams from 22 countries of the world, in particular Russia, Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, the United Arab Emirates take part and others.

The Russian team included ten schoolchildren, of which four are students from Moscow schools who became winners of the final stage of the All-Russian Chemistry Olympiad for schoolchildren this year. The competition includes two theoretical rounds and one experimental round. The capital’s lucky ones were: Daria Azarova, a student of school No. 1535, Artem Alekhin, a student of the A. N. Kolmogorov Boarding School of Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov, Timur Akhmedov, a student of the School in the South-East named after Marshal V. I. Chuikov, and Sergey Roslyakov, a student at the Center for Pedagogical Excellence.

At the Olympiad, schoolchildren are waiting for two rounds – theoretical and practical. The Olympiad will end on May 7th. By the way, last year our team won ten medals: five gold, four silver and one bronze. The Moscow schoolboy Ignaty Tarabrin became the absolute winner of the competition. He was also awarded the traditional award named after the founder and curator of the Mendeleev Olympiad, Valery Lunin.

According to Vadim Eremin, head of the team, Professor of the Department of Chemistry at MB Lomonosov Moscow State University, schoolchildren are participating in the International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad in preparation for the 55th International Chemistry Olympiad, which will be held from July 16 to 25, 2023 in Switzerland.

The International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad (IMChO) has been held since 1992. In terms of content, it is considered the most difficult and one of the most interesting Olympiads in the world.
