“Moscow saber” is back

From December 2 to 4, 2022, after more than a two-year break, the legendary international tournament “Moscow Sabre” was held at the Irina Viner-Usmanova Gymnastics Palace, which began almost 50 years ago, in 1973. Its program includes individual and team saber fencing competitions for men and women.
The strongest saber fencers and saber fencers of Russia took part in the tournament. Among them are the undisputed leaders of the national team: Olympic, world and European champions Sofia Velikaya, Sofia Pozdnyakova, Yana Egoryan, Olga Nikitina, world and European champions Veniamin Reshetnikov, Kamil Ibragimov, Dmitry Danilenko.
The 45th tournament of the International saber fencing competitions among men and women “Moscow Saber – 2022”, organized with the support of the Department of Sports of the City of Moscow, in which more than 180 athletes from Russia, the Republic of Belarus, Nepal and Armenia, successfully completed in one of the best sports halls in the country – in the Gymnastics Palace of Irina Viner-Usmanova.
In the women’s individual tournament, Yana Yegoryan won. The second place was taken by Evgenia Podpaskova, the third – by Sofia Velikaya and Olga Nikitina.
In men, gold was won by Kamil Ibragimov, silver by Dmitry Danilenko, bronze by Veniamin Reshetnikov and Anatoly Kostenko.
In the team championship among women, the first place was taken by the team of the Novosibirsk Region consisting of: Sofia Pozdnyakova, Valeria Kobzeva, Alina Mikhailova and Anastasia Shorokhova.
In the men’s tournament, the victory was won by the first team in Moscow, which was played by Kamil Ibragimov, Dmitry Danilenko, Oleg Petrovsky and Vasily Shirshov.
The Russian Fencing Federation set the prize fund of the tournament in the amount of 8,400,000 rubles, which was distributed as follows among the winners of individual competitions:
1st place – 1,800,000 rubles
2nd place – 1,200,000 rubles
3rd places – 600,000 rubles each (two athletes are awarded).
