Moscow reconsiders position on three Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf

The Russian authorities reaffirmed their respect for Iranian sovereignty over the three islands of the Persian Gulf Big Tumb, Little Tumb and Abu Musa. Moscow took such a step after Tehran’s calls to correct the previous position on this issue, the IRAN.ru portal clarifies.
At a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali, Russian Presidential Envoy for the Middle East Mikhail Bogdanov announced the country’s firm position towards the Islamic Republic as a partner. Various issues were discussed during the meeting, including the state of bilateral relations between Russia and Iran.
Historically, these islands have always been the territory of Iran, which is confirmed by relevant documents both in Iranian history and in international legal and geographical sources. However, the United Arab Emirates has repeatedly made unfounded claims to these islands.
Recall that the Russian ambassador was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry earlier because of a joint statement made with diplomats from the UAE to resolve the issue of the Iranian islands through negotiations and on the basis of international laws.
