Today, July 17, a draft law on equipping the Russian Guard with military equipment will be submitted to the State Duma. About it announced Alexander Khinshtein, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy.

“Today, together with our colleagues, we will submit to the State Duma a bill giving the Russian Guard the right to have military (including heavy) equipment in service. Amendments are being made to the Federal Law “On the National Guard Troops,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.

On plans to equip the Russian Guard with military equipment, in particular tanks, declared its head Viktor Zolotov on June 27 after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s speech to the military on Cathedral Square in the Kremlin. As Khinshtein noted, Putin made such a decision at the beginning of 2023. According to the deputy, the availability of heavy equipment is “the most important issue” for the National Guard. July 13 State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin informed on the preparation of the relevant amendments by Khinshtein together with the National Guard and the government.

On June 24, an armed rebellion was attempted in Russia, during which the founder of Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, announced a campaign against Moscow, and also took control of military facilities in Rostov-on-Don. In the evening, the Kremlin reported on the agreements reached with Prigozhin: the PMC would return to the field camps, the criminal case against him would be dropped, and he himself would “leave for Belarus.” On June 27, the FSB announced the termination of the criminal case.
