Moscow ranked first in the index of the most alarmed regions of the country

Experts from the analytical department of the CROS agency presented a rating of Russian regions in terms of their anxiety index.

The study was called the “National Anxiety Index” and divided the regions of the country into three types: anxious, balanced and unflappable. The ten most alarmed included: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kursk region, Republic of Buryatia, Sevastopol, Belgorod region, Arkhangelsk region, Yaroslavl region, Bryansk region and Trans-Baikal Territory. The most unflappable, according to places in the ranking, are: the Jewish Autonomous Region, Kamchatka Territory, Magadan Region, the Republic of Mordovia, the Amur Region, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the Sakhalin Region, the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, the Republic of Ingushetia and the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.

Among the balanced ones are the Kostroma Region, the Kurgan Region, the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, the Republic of Tatarstan, the Murmansk Region, the Altai Territory, the Kaliningrad Region, the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, the Chechen Republic and the Irkutsk Region.

As the researchers noted, the total index of anxiety in 2022 increased by two and a half times compared to 2021 – from 9,790 points to 21,400 points. This is due to the general political and economic situation in the country. But even in 2021, it increased by about 70 percent compared to 2020, from 5,700 points to 9,790 points. This was primarily due to the pandemic.

As one of the authors of the study, Andrey Lebedev, noted, in 2022, Russians practically stopped worrying about the COVID-19 epidemic and vaccination. In Moscow, the “key” anxieties include: the progress of the SVO, the escalation of the conflict with the West, the departure of foreign companies and brands. By the way, it is interesting that the capital is one of the few regions in which the problem of the exit of foreign companies is among the top three concerns. In St. Petersburg this year, the residents of the city were worried about the course of the SVO, partial mobilization and inflation. It is important to note that partial mobilization took second place, while in Moscow it did not even make it into the top three. Kursk region for the first time got into the top 3 in terms of anxiety. Residents of the region were worried about the course of the NWO, sabotage and inflation.

If we talk about the top 10 alarmed regions in general, their list has changed a lot this year and, compared to last year, seven regions in it are new, only Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Arkhangelsk region remained among the old ones.
