Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov promised that Russia would voluntarily notify about ballistic missile launches
The 1988 Agreement on Notification of Test Launches of Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) and Submarine Ballistic Missiles (SLBMs) remains in force.
This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov.
“Of course, we have said about it,” he stressed.
Ryabkov explained that all types of information exchanges were suspended, as well as other elements of verification activities provided for by the START. However, Moscow will voluntarily adhere to the quantitative restrictions established by the treaty.
The diplomat noted that he is not yet ready to comment on whether there are types of launches that fall under the START agreement, but not under the 1988 agreement. He promised to consult with experts.
Formerly Sergei Ryabkov declaredthat in the current situation he sees no prospects for negotiations with Washington on strategic offensive weapons.
