Mosstat published a report on the socio-economic situation in Moscow for January-September 2022. According to him, in nine months the population of the capital has decreased – both due to natural decline, and due to migration.

During this period, 82,902 children were born in the city, which is 4,000 less than in the same period last year. 85,965 people died, of which 289 were children under the age of 1 year. Thus, the natural decline in the population is 3 thousand. However, this is significantly less than for the same period last year, 2021. At that time, 87,000 people were born in the capital, and 115,000 people died, so that in the nine months of last year the natural population decline was 9.5 times higher than now.

This year, migration in Moscow is also negative. 121,176 people arrived in the capital, and 149,276 people left it. Thus, due to migration, the urban population decreased by 28 thousand.

Most of the migrants – 101,400 people – came from other regions of Russia. 10,894 people came to the capital from the CIS countries, and 1,522 from other foreign countries.

At the same time, 3,728 foreigners and 18,047 residents of the CIS countries left Moscow in nine months. Also, 120,141 residents of the capital decided to leave for other regions of Russia.

For comparison: in the nine months of last year, the population of the capital increased by 4.5 thousand people due to migrants.

In Moscow registry offices from January to September, 64,746 marriages and 31,737 divorces were concluded. Compared to the nine months of last year, the “primary cells of society” have strengthened: there were 6,301 more marriages and 324 fewer divorces.
