Moscow declares yellow weather alert due to blizzard

The hydrometeorological center has declared a yellow level of danger in Moscow and the Moscow region. The region has warnings for wind gusts up to 17 m/s, snowstorms and black ice. Similar measures have been announced in almost all regions of the Central Federal District, with the exception of the Lipetsk, Orel, Kursk, Belgorod and Voronezh regions.
Scientific Director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand explained TASSthat changes in the weather are associated with a change in circulation. “The clouds will be low, gloomy. The nature of the weather will change,” he said. Mr. Vilfand noted that visibility in Moscow would be “not very good.”
The yellow level of weather danger has also been declared in many regions of the North Caucasus, Southern, Volga, Siberian, Northwestern federal districts. Kamchatka and Chukotka have an orange level of danger due to strong winds and snowstorms.
