Moscow court fines Skyeng 60,000 rubles for data breach

The judicial district of the Tagansky district of Moscow fined the Skyeng online English school for 60,000 rubles. due to the leakage of personal data of users. About it informs agency “RIA Novosti” with reference to the press service of the court.
The service was found guilty under Part 1 of Art. 13.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. The maximum penalty under the article is a fine of 100,000 rubles. The court could not name the volume of the leak and clarify.
The data leak of 5 million users of the online school became known in June last year. According to the In4security Telegram channel, phones, email addresses, Skype IDs and other information about Skyeng students were leaked to the network. The attackers offered to purchase the base for 40,000 rubles.
Authenticity of published data managed confirm to Kommersant. At the same time, Skyeng denied the leak. Then the company stated that there were no grounds to believe that publicly available data were related to the company.
According to Kaspersky Lab, the leaders in the number of leaks in 2022 are become retail and food delivery companies. In total, last year there were 168 publications of significant databases of Russian organizations. More than 2 billion records were publicly available – almost 300 million user data.
