Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Argentina’s position on joining or not joining the BRICS is the country’s internal affair.
At a press conference, answering a question “Tapes.ru”, Ryabkov noted that voters in each country have the right to decide who will be the leader. He believes that the current leadership of Argentina is interested in joining the association, and our country cooperates exclusively with the current authorities. The question was caused by the controversial reaction in Argentina to the news about the country’s entry into the BRICS.
On October 22, the country will hold presidential elections, and two key opposition candidates – Patricia Bullrich and Javier Miley – intend to withdraw Argentina’s application for membership if they win.
Earlier, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the entry of new countries into the BRICS from January 1, 2024. These are Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates.
