The head of the Russian Chess Federation (RCF) Andrey Filatov said that the Russian Federation is ready to host the match for the world chess crown between Ian Nepomniachtchi (Russia) and Ding Liren (PRC). If the International Chess Federation (FIDE) agrees, then all the necessary funds will be raised.
“If FIDE agrees to hold the match in Moscow, then we will collect all the necessary funds – the “merchants” will help,” Filatov said. He also said that there are no negotiations with China regarding the match, “until we understand the decision on sanctions and restrictions.” If they are removed, the head of the FSR stressed, negotiations will be held with a friendly organization.
“Maybe even split the match into China and Russia. Maybe even hold it at the Tretyakov Gallery,” Filatov shared his long-term plans with media representatives.
Earlier, the FIDE ethics commission disqualified Russian Sergey Karyakin for 6 months for supporting the CBO in Ukraine, effectively depriving him of the opportunity to participate in the Candidates for the Chess Crown Tournament. FIDE, in addition, suspended the Russian national teams from participating in international competitions.
The match for the World Chess Championship title will take place in April-May 2023.
