Russia and Syria called on the United States to withdraw troops from Syrian territories, Stanislav Gadzhimagomedov and Hussein Makhluf, heads of the interdepartmental coordination headquarters of the Russian Federation and Syria, said in a joint statement.
“The withdrawal of the American military contingent and the transfer of refugee camps under the control of the Syrian government can ensure the observance of human rights and the full return of the population of the territories they currently occupy to peaceful life,” the document says (quote according to TASS).
The United States and its allies oppose the Syrian authorities in returning the population of the republic to peaceful life, the statement said. According to the estimates of the leaders of the coordination headquarters, the United States continues to steal resources from the country, in particular oil and wheat, and also supports terrorist organizations.
This is not the first demand to withdraw American troops from Syria. At the end of April, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic also called on the United States to immediately leave the territory of the republic.
The Foreign Ministry made the same statement in October 2022. At that time, the statement noted that “the illegal presence of American troops and the use of mercenaries by Washington to achieve its goals is contrary to international law.” In addition, the Syrian Foreign Ministry drew attention to the export of Syrian oil by the United States to its bases in northern Iraq.
Last summer, the Syrian Foreign Ministry sent Letters to UN Secretary General António Guterres and the organization’s Security Council pointing to $107.1 billion in damage to the Syrian economy in the oil and gas sector.
