Mortality in the Russian Federation in the first quarter of 2023 decreased by 21.4%
Mortality in Russia in the first quarter of 2023 decreased by 21.4% compared to the same period in 2022 – from 584.6 thousand to 459.7 thousand people. Such data on Friday, May 12, was published by the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat).
The birth rate for the period under review also decreased, but less significantly, by only 2.9% – to 311.5 thousand babies. Infant mortality decreased by 12.5%.
As a result, the natural decline in the population of Russia in the first quarter of 2023 decreased by 43.72%.
In April, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova reported on the increase in life expectancy in the country in the first quarter of 2023 – this figure reached 73.31 years. At the end of 2022, life expectancy in the Russian Federation was 72.8 years, and the mortality rate in the country for 2022 decreased by 22%.
The Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko noted the increase in life expectancy, as well as decrease in mortality among Russians from cardiovascular diseases by 10% compared to 2019, the last year before the coronavirus pandemic.
