Moroccans riot in the Netherlands after defeating Canada

Riots erupted in several cities in the Netherlands following Morocco’s victory over Canada at the World Cup in Qatar. In particular, unrest was recorded in Rotterdam, Amersfoort and Amsterdam.
So, in Amersfoort, a group of about 300 fans of the Moroccan team celebrated the victory of the national team, driving around the city in cars and scooters with Moroccan flags. The policemen, who demanded to observe public order, were bombarded with flares.
In Amsterdam, the riots escalated even further as nine brawlers were arrested and charged with criminal offenses, including assaulting police officers. The festivities in Rotterdam looked similar, where people threw stones and flares at police cars. Five Moroccans were arrested in this city.
Hundreds of police officers, including mounted and dog handlers, were involved in dispersing the riots. In total, about 20 brawlers across the country were arrested. “I am ashamed to see that the situation has again gotten out of control in different cities,” said the Minister of Justice of the kingdom, Dylan Yesilgöz-Zegerius.
Recall that the Moroccan national team won the playoff match of football players from Canada with a score of 2:1. Thus, the team from the North African kingdom enters the playoffs of the 2022 World Cup, where it will compete with one of the favorites of the championship – the Spanish national team.
