Rashidi broke Rivera’s “record” of 64 match-fixing, also suspended for life at the end of September 2022
Former Moroccan tennis player Younes Rashidi has been banned for life after he was found guilty of 135 match-fixing, the highest number of offenses committed by a single tennis player ever found by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).
According to ITIA experts, the 36-year-old was involved in match-fixing with two Algerian players recently suspended by the ITIA, and these cases were uncovered after a law enforcement investigation in conjunction with the ITIA representative office in Belgium.
“The case was reviewed by an independent expert in anti-corruption hearings, Jani Subler, who considered all the allegations proven. Rashidi committed 135 “egregious” violations. In addition to a lifetime ban, he must pay a $34,000 fine,” the ITIA said in a statement released February 9, 2023.
Rashidi, who had the highest ATP rating in doubles of 473, is now permanently banned from playing, coaching or attending any tennis event permitted or sanctioned by tennis’s governing bodies.
The previous “record” for fixed matches belonged to the Chilean tennis coach Sebastian Rivera, as MK wrote on September 23, 2022. He also received a lifetime ban after being found guilty of arranging 64 match-fixing. The 36-year-old former tennis player, who achieved his best result in 2009 (705th in the ATP rankings) and earned just over $15,000 in prize money in his career, in addition to a life ban, was also sentenced to a fine of $250,000.
