Rapper Alisher Morgenstern (declared a foreign agent) said that he was denied entry into the UAE. The official reason was not explained, the rapper said. Addressing the Emirati authorities, he assured that he had not violated local laws, had never made political statements and planned to build a life in Dubai.
“I don’t have residency, I went there as a tourist. When my days ran out, I needed to renew my visa and they turned me down as a tourist,” the rapper said in a video on his YouTube channel. Then he spent about two to three weeks in Kazakhstan and Thailand.
A month ago, he was informed that he could re-enter the country as a tourist. However, at the Thai airport, employees said that he was “banned from entering the country”; they did not explain the reason.
Shortly before this, Morgenstern’s concerts in Dubai were cancelled. Telegram channel Mash wrote that the ban was introduced by the UAE authorities after the rapper’s interview with journalist Ksenia Sobchak, where he talked about ways to circumvent local laws. Morgenstern left Russia in 2021.
