More than half of Rostov residents supported renaming it to Rostov the Great

58% of residents of Rostov, Yaroslavl region, supported renaming the city to Rostov the Great. About it reports regional government. On October 11, the signature sheets were handed over to Governor Mikhail Evraev at the Rostov Kremlin Museum. The collection of signatures was carried out by the public movement “For Rostov the Great!” A total of 13,922 signatures from city residents were collected, of which 13,854 people supported the name change, 68 people did not agree with the initiative.
According to regional authorities, 58% of all city residents over 14 years of age are in favor of changing the name. The initiative was also supported by Governor Mikhail Evraev, who created an organizing committee to rename the city. “We have taken an important step towards renaming Rostov to Rostov the Great. Thank you very much to everyone who supported this decision,” said Mikhail Evraev.
Kommersant reportedthat the collection of signatures for renaming the city began on August 10. Signatures have no legal significance. The decision on renaming is made by the State Duma of the Russian Federation. It is planned that the Yaroslavl Regional Duma will submit a bill on this to the chamber.
