More than 50 people refused compensation for housing destroyed in the shelling in the Belgorod region

51 residents of the border areas of the Belgorod region refused to compensate for housing destroyed in the shelling. According to the Minister of Construction Oksana Kozlitina, these people intend to return to live in their settlements.

In total, 1,755 dwellings were destroyed in the Belgorod region. The owners of 1439 of them agreed to receive compensation in the form of a new living space, 97 have already received the keys and moved. The rest are in the process of choosing housing and land plots and are resolving issues with the technical passports of their former housing. Officials were unable to find 265 homeowners, some of whom do not live in the Russian Federation.

Governor of the Belgorod Region Vyacheslav Gladkov at a meeting in the regional government declaredthat, despite the impossibility of handing notices of compensation to some owners, housing will still be built. He also instructed to speed up work with those who have not yet decided.

“We understand that these decisions are often emotional. I would not like to bring it to the point that a person will come in a year or two and say that he has changed his mind. We do not understand when people will be able to return to their homes. We hoped that people were resettled for two or three days, but today it has been a year and a half,” Mr. Gladkov said.

The head of the region also commented on the conditions for the restoration of housing for wealthy residents of the region. The head of the administration of the Belgorod region, Vladimir Pertsev, said at a meeting that officials are now preparing documents on the removal of two objects from Nizhny Olshanets from the list of houses being restored.

“We restore the roof and windows. Swimming pools, aquariums, cars worth 10-15 million rubles each, of course, with all due respect to people, we cannot restore this amount. I think there should be justice. We meet halfway and take increased obligations to those who have an average and low income. If a person can buy a house for 50 or 30 million and a car for 20 or 10 million, I think it’s a slightly different story,” the governor said.

Since the beginning of the special military operation, the Belgorod region has been shelled by Ukraine. Due to the ongoing attacks, 15 settlements are under a state of emergency at the municipal level, their residents have been temporarily resettled.
