More than 150 people took part in sports events of the Smolensk NPP trade union

On March 11 and 12, 2023, Desnogorsk, the city of Smolensk nuclear scientists, hosted tournaments in three sports disciplines at once: volleyball, badminton and skiing. The organizer of the competition was the primary trade union organization of the Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant (PPO SNPP).
“Doing sports brings a lot of benefits: they strengthen health, body and spirit, temper character. Therefore, we place special emphasis on ensuring that the personnel of the Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant, as well as our younger generation, not only have the opportunity to play sports, but also can develop in it”– said the chairman of the primary trade union organization Igor Khomyakov.
Opened a series of sports events Smolensk NPP Open Volleyball Tournament. More than 60 people took part in it – these are 8 teams from Smolenskaya, Yartsevo, Elnya and Desnogorsk.
On the same day, the participants of the Smolensk NPP Open Championship in cross-country skiing took over the sprint relay. 32 teams, each of which had two participants, covered a distance of 7200 meters, replacing each other in turn every 1.2 kilometers.
A distance of 50 km a week earlier was overcome by six athletes from the Smolensk NPP, who took part in the Demino ski marathon. Athletes got the opportunity to take part in a large-scale international ski race thanks to the support of the trade union of Smolensk NPP.
On March 12, an Open Badminton Tournament among girls was held. It was attended by two dozen representatives of the beautiful half of humanity.
Today, the Government of the Russian Federation, regional authorities and large Russian companies are paying more and more attention to supporting various competitions, as well as events aimed at popularizing sports among young people, and developing an accessible sports infrastructure. Rosatom and its enterprises take an active part in this work.
