In Dnepropetrovsk, the dismantling of the monument to the Russian scientist Mikhail Lomonosov has begun, according to the Ukrainian publication Public. Dnepr.
The mayor of the city, Boris Filatov, said earlier that the monuments erected in the Dnieper (Ukrainian name for Dnepropetrovsk), which are associated with Russia and the USSR, will be transferred to the territory of the Zoocontrol utility company.
Earlier, monuments to the classics of Russian literature Alexander Pushkin, writer Maxim Gorky, and Soviet pilot Valery Chkalov were dismantled in Dnepropetrovsk.
The day before, a monument to the writer Nikolai Ostrovsky was dismantled in Kharkov, the pedestal of which was doused with paint by vandals. Now only one of the three monuments erected to the author of the novel “How the Steel Was Tempered” remains in the city.
The dismantling of monuments has recently become widespread in Ukraine. In 2015, when the law on decommunization was adopted, they started with monuments related to Soviet history. Recently, the Ukrainian authorities have moved to fight against all monuments related to Russian history.
