Moldova will withdraw from the agreement on the principles of providing the border troops of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) with weapons and military equipment, informs Moldovan Parliament.

The Commission on Foreign Policy and European Integration approved an advisory opinion condemning the agreement on the principles of providing the border troops with weapons, military equipment and other material resources, as well as the organization of scientific and experimental construction research, signed in Tashkent on May 15, 1992. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country , it exhausted its relevance for Moldova shortly after the conclusion, it was also not implemented by the competent authorities.

It is noted that at the spring session, the Moldovan Parliament denounced eight agreements with the CIS. Six other projects on the denunciation of agreements with the CIS have been registered in the parliament and will be considered by the deputies.

On July 26, Chisinau decided to reduce the number of staff of the Russian embassy in the republic and announced the expulsion of 45 people. On August 2, Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nikolay Popescu said that Moldova’s decision to reduce the number of staff at the Russian embassy in the republic is a response to Moscow’s policy. Popescu added that the republic had established that some of the employees of the Russian diplomatic mission were allegedly engaged in “destabilizing the situation” in the country.

The Kremlin said that Chisinau deliberately brings relations with Russia “in a very miserable state” and the country’s leadership “cuts all the ropes.” Russian Ambassador in Chisinau Oleg Vasnetsov explainedthat the decision of Moldova to reduce the staff of the Russian embassy will complicate cooperation with Russia in the cultural, humanitarian, business and public spheres, and will also create problems for the citizens of the republic.
