Mobiville, Pôle emploi’s mobility assistance platform

In just two years, job offers displayed on the fronts of cafes, shops and similar have multiplied. Some are looking for waiters, others for cleaners or skilled workers… But, despite the 2.26 million unemployed, these ads often come up empty. According to economists, these tensions on the labor market result from a mismatch between supply and demand for skills. And one of the components of this poor connection is explained by the lack of mobility of the unemployed.

According to studies carried out on the subject, it is estimated that the maximum distance that a job seeker is willing to make for professional mobility is approximately… 30 kilometers (and barely 10 in the mining areas of the North). Hence the phenomena of lack of labor or surplus depending on the different labor pools.

Employment opportunities

To remedy this, Pôle emploi has joined forces with Action Logement to develop Mobiville, a mobility decision-making tool. “This online service allows job seekers and employees to choose the territory most conducive to their return to sustainable employment and the construction of their life project.“, details Pôle emploi. In concrete terms, the platform allows the unemployed to detect employment opportunities according to professional sectors and according to territories, to be accompanied throughout their mobility project or to activate aid levers, in particular financial.

By entering a few personal preferences on the desired living environment (metropolis, sea, assembly, etc.) and employment conditions (contract, working time, salary, etc.), the platform offers a selection of cities that meet these criteria and which offer numerous employment opportunities.

Since it went online a year ago, nearly 124,000 people have used the tool, and 5,400 mobility projects with people who had not previously considered it have been initiated. Not enough to massively reduce unemployment, but to achieve full employment, the goal set by Emmanuel Macron for the end of his second five-year term, every initiative is worth taking.
