MMA fighter detained under article about justifying terrorism – Kommersant

A 31-year-old man was detained in Moscow on charges of justifying terrorism. This was reported by senior assistant to the head of the Moscow headquarters of the Investigative Committee of Russia (ICR), Yulia Ivanova. According to a RIA Novosti source, we are talking about MMA fighter Ilyas Yakubov.

In July, Ilyas Yakubov published a video on Instagram (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned) in which he trains to the monologue of the militant Shamil Basayev, who in 1995 seized a hospital in Budyonnovsk, and in 2004 a school in Beslan, where 186 children were killed.

“A criminal case is being investigated against a 31-year-old man. He has been charged with committing a crime… “public justification of terrorist activities committed using the Internet,” said a representative of the Investigative Committee (quoted from RIA Novosti).

According to investigators, the detainee recorded a video justifying terrorism and published it on a social network banned in Russia. He was put on the federal wanted list, and today, October 22, he was detained and taken to the department of the capital department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. The investigation will petition the Chertanovsky court for arrest.

According to MashIlyas Yakubov was one of the initiators of a mass brawl in the Riviera shopping center near the Avtozavodskaya MCC station in the south of Moscow.

The day before, Ilyas Yakubov was in Abu Dhabi for UFC 294, where he came to support Khamzat Chimaev, arranged a brawl with Tornike “Tokogaz” Svanidze, who had previously won by knockout in a fight with Jakhar “Warrior Aukha” Majidov.
