Sergei Sobyanin presented the traditional awards of the city of Moscow in the field of journalism to media workers who showed themselves especially brightly last year. The presentation of the awards is timed to coincide with the Day of the Russian Press, which is celebrated on January 13th.
Sergei Sobyanin, meeting the laureates of the award, emphasized that this year is an anniversary: exactly 320 years ago, in January 1703, the first issue of the Vedomosti newspaper, established by Emperor Peter the Great, was published in the building of the Moscow Printing House on Nikolskaya Street. From this day on, the history of the Russian periodical press is being counted, and today the Russian media competently continue the work of those first Vedomosti. The role of the journalist has not changed.
– The knowledge and memory of the people about the events that take place on the territory of our country and our glorious city depend on your professionalism, skill, responsibility. Thank you very much for your work, for your skill, and indifferent attitude to your work from all Muscovites. Thank you very much, – said Sobyanin.
The award ceremony was held in the white hall of the city hall. About 25 people became laureates of the Moscow City Prize in 2023. Among the award recipients is Vadim Poegli, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper.
Prizes have been awarded annually since 2001 by decree of the Mayor of Moscow at the suggestion of the Moscow Union of Journalists on the basis of a decision-recommendation of the expert council. The basis for awarding the awards is the creation of the most talented and relevant journalistic materials, television and radio programs about Moscow and its inhabitants.
